BLACK-BROWED ALBATROSS - Thalassarche melanophris
Circumpolar in the southern oceans, the Black-browed Albatross breeds on 12 islands throughout that range, they have been known to live over 70 years and live a mostly pelagic (exclusively at sea) life, returning to land only to breed.
This adult bird is thought to be at least eight years old and has returned to Bempton Cliffs, near Flamborough on the Yorkshire coast for the third year. It is likely ranging in the Northern hemisphere looking for a mate but is probably the only one in Europe.
It took me over thirty hours in three visits to finally capture reasonable images of this magnificent bird and I am delighted with the results.
