BARN OWL IN RENOVATED BARN IN NIDDERDALE

NORTH YORKSHIRE 2025

This old barn in Nidderdale was carefully renovated by the nature conservation group owners in 2024 where I am a volunteer. I have two Tawny Owl boxes at one of their sites and was asked to make a Barn Owl nest box to be fixed inside this barn. At the rear of the barn, a wall cavity with outer ledge was created during the renovation and we then fixed the nest box inside the barn and in February I noted ‘bird poo’ on the ledge and so I visited the barn pre-dawn and set up my small Buteo Camo Hide and a few days later I quietly set up my camera gear in the Hide and in the late afternoon managed to capture some images of a Barn Owl entering the cavity.
